After struggling to find a job for so long, he was finally hired by a small company. The salary wasn't much, but James was content and happy that he could support his mother and his sister Binta, and save a little money for the future.
James had devoted much of his time to his new job. He had been working for several months and remained consistent. One Friday evening, Binta called James and asked, "Are you coming home tomorrow?" James replied, "Yes, but why do you ask?" Binta was quiet for a moment, then responded, "Nothing, just come home." James noticed the strange response but didn't ask further.
The next morning, he booked a ride. Two hours before arriving, James imagined his mother's smile when she saw him. He had bought her a new pair of shoes and some food items. But when James arrived, something felt different. The house was very quiet, and he saw Binta sitting alone in the living room.
He asked, "Where is Mom?" She replied, "She went to the hospital." James felt sad at that moment. "What happened?" he asked. "She fainted at home, and the doctor said she needs treatment." James immediately asked Binta to take him to the hospital. When he saw his mother lying in the room, she looked very tired, but when she saw James, she smiled. She said, "My son, I knew you would come." James hugged his mother and asked, "Why didn't you tell me?" His mother replied, "I didn't want to worry you because of your new job. I wanted you to stay focused on your work."
James had been so focused on his job and future plans for months that he hadn't noticed how much his mother had been struggling. She had stopped complaining about chest pain because she didn't want him to lose concentration.
Seeing his mother lying there, James realized that all his plans suddenly seemed less important. He told her, "Mom, I am here now. You don't need to hide anything from me anymore." That night, James stayed beside her.
Finally, James understood what he had failed to see. He had been so busy chasing his future that he neglected the woman who had sacrificed so much for it.
The next morning, James called his boss and asked for a few days off. That was the first time in a long while that James wasn't thinking about money or other concerns. He was truly grateful to stay beside his mother.
