This is a piece I made as a gift for an Irish family, thus I went with the traditional orange and green color combination.

The green core was made using something called an optic mold. The optic mold creates vertical lines of color in a uniformly distributed surface coat of color. Once these vertical lines are made, the glass can be twisted to create a swirl. The green is transparent so the lines of color look like they cross in a fish net pattern but really the lines in the opposite direction come from the twisted lines in the background.

After the green layer is finished the piece is encased in clear glass. On top of this clear layer, an orange bit wrap is applied. This means taking a hot piece of orange glass and wrapping it around the encased clear glass.

Lastly, the piece is encased a second time. The curvature at this point allows the green core to appear magnified.
