Today was one of those weird days that don't have me running around town or teaching, so I decided to go for a hike!
This time I timed myself on me ascent and again on my descent. What I found was that a steady jog up the mountain takes about the same time as a more comfortable pace down the mountain.
Can you spot the divide between arbutus territory and fir tree country?
It took me 35 minutes to reach the peak. The trail is about 3km long and the elevation gain is about 400m. I'd like to be able to get to the top in under a half hour with gear on, so that'll be my goal before the kids get their break for spring.
Moe was very well behaved on this hike. This is the longest he's gone without disappearing on a hike, which makes his record 2 hikes and counting. I neglected to bring treats again, and he was very sad when he found out that the tea and timbits I brought weren't for him. Maybe next time, Moe!
Here he is, wishing he had thumbs
I also wanted to mention how clean this trail is. I think it's amazing how I've never really seen nothing more than some fruit peel on the whole trail. It makes me happy when other hikers put as much effort into zero trace as I do. And it was that thought that motivated me to climb the mountain again after I realized I forgot my touque at the top. Fuck!
Had to have an extra cuppa at the top to feel better
Despite having to do it over I was very happy with the hike. My time was ok and it gave me the opportunity to enjoy some of the sun that came out today, which certainly beats my last hike. Overall much much drier and a little sweater.
