Greetings, this beautiful Sunday I am pleased to share with you a segment of the story in the Portal universe, in #comic form, called "Lab Rat". Created by the artists: Michael Avon Oeming and Jay Pinkerton, It was made as an extra for the Portal 2 game.
Yes, surely you have ever wondered where the messages in forgotten sectors of the test zones came from and who their mysterious author was.
It is narrated from the perspective of scientist Doug Rattman, the sole survivor of GlaDos' neurotoxin attack on all lab employees.
You can see how he's related to Chell, even though you can't interact with him in the first game nor can you see him, he's been watching us.
Through his memories we are told, his concern for GlaDos's psychopathic tendency, totally ignored by the other researchers, with terrible consequences.
The #story ends before the events of the second installment begin, where the trace of him definitely disappears without giving us any explanations about it.
Mr. Doug Rattman, suffers from schizophrenia, as such he can hear the voices of his own thoughts as a separate entity, projected onto an object, in this case an evidence cube that carries everywhere, (such as the Wilson ball from the castaway movie). He has had to survive without medication, fleeing GlaDos' continual attempts to assassinate him.
That in the situation he is in, -I don't wish it for anyone-, he is desperate and if he didn't have mental problems, anyone could start suffering from them.
The way the drawing reflects Mr. Rattman's precarious state of mind, I find it excellent. It is the vision of a terrified, disturbed man desperately seeking release from him. But that he hasn't lost his values, he hasn't lost his integrity, as he demonstrates over the course of the comic.
Rattman's mind is not totally lost, and he had kept the last bit of medication to clear his mind in a desperate situation, so he is aware of his mental condition and reality.
Mr. Rattman had great confidence in Chell's abilities, and she certainly survives the final test chamber, makes it to GlaDos and disables it.
Finally, thanks to Chell's clever performance, Mr. Rattman manages to escape from the laboratory and reach the sunlight.
Mr. Rattman is startled by a shuffling sound and hides, only to watch as Chell was captured and dragged back to the lab.
I can sympathize with the character's attitude, both in the memories of the laboratory, and in his decision not to abandon Chell to her fate, it is true that GlaDos was disabled, but many systems were still in operation. The first installment of the comic ended on the next two pages.
In this second part of the comic, we are told how Mr. Rattman fights to save Chell in the laboratory, and we are allowed to see in his memories, what relationship he had with Chell from the beginning.
The medication finally takes effect, and he loses the help of his projected consciousness, which makes it very difficult to get through the security of the area, for which he is severely injured.
From the beginning Mr. Rattman had to do with Chell, and it was his wise decisions that brought about the downfall of GlaDos.
My God, who in their right mind gives neurotoxin to a computer that's trying to kill everyone?
After finally saving Chell, he leaves her in the room where we started the game in the second installment and Mr. Rattman introduces himself into the stasis chamber that Chell woke up in at the start of the first game.
In the second installment, we no longer hear from him, and we do not know how long the character spent in suspension, nor is the camera in which he had stayed.
Personally, I really want to think that he woke up when his wounds healed and was able to flee the lab, without GlaDos he had many possibilities.
Thank you very much for stopping by and reading me, this is a story that I really like. It has been a pleasure to share it with you.
