Some things begin to grow without us really looking for them. And before we know it, they have become part of our lives.
This cannabis plant sprouted on its own on July 1. I never deliberately planted it. Since then, the only water it has received has been rainwater. I simply watched it grow, paid attention to its changes, and gave it the care I could.
Taking care of it became more than just watching a plant grow. At different times, the attention and dedication it required helped me clear my head. Sometimes, there is something therapeutic about caring for something that asks for no explanations, only patience and presence.
I recently had to move it to another part of my home. It was in the front yard, too exposed to people's eyes, so I decided to find a more private spot. Some things are worth protecting from unnecessary attention.
Looking at these pictures, you might notice a few things that seem to make little sense: rusty nails, a tiny plastic dinosaur skeleton, and other objects scattered around the plant.
They aren't there to tell some grand story. They are simply part of this little corner of my home. Sometimes, the most insignificant details give a place its own character.
Here in Argentina, we've also had some rather unusual rainfall for this time of year. I've heard people mention a phenomenon called El Niño. I suppose it could have something to do with it, although I haven't checked how much it explains the weather in my region.
Whatever the reason, rain has been part of this plant's story from the very beginning.
All five photographs are my own. They capture the plant as it is today, along with some of the little details that make up its surroundings.
Caring for something that grows can also help us put a few things in order within ourselves. It gives us something to focus on, something that changes slowly, without demanding much beyond our time and attention.
Not everything needs to be useful, spectacular, or meaningful to everyone else. Sometimes, it's enough to pay attention and appreciate the small things that become part of our everyday lives.
