Greetings to the whole holos-lotus@holos-lotus y #communit .and #hive

We are already in October and the truth is that time flew by. Without realizing it, the countdown to December 24th and 31st has already begun. In this season, when you start feeling that Christmas breeze, it is inevitable to start remembering moments from the past.

Thinking about all this, a Venezuelan song that we all know by heart came to my mind: the famous Christmas carol "Niño Pedilón".

This song is a classic of our tradition. It became very popular in the middle of the 20th century thanks to well-loved groups like Un Solo Pueblo and Los Tucusitos. It is that lively music that was heard in street parrandas and announced to us that Christmas was already here.

Listening to the lyrics these days, I started thinking about how things have changed over the years.

In my personal opinion: in those days the innocence of children was very different. There was not as much malice or wickedness on the streets as there is now. Children back then were content and happy with very simple things: a ball, a doll, a plastic toy car, or simply going out to sing carols from house to house to get a piece of papaya sweet. There was a very beautiful magic and naivety.

Nowadays we live in a more "civilized" world full of technology. Mind you, technology has its good side, but we cannot deny that it has taken away some innocence from the little ones. Children today no longer ask for a traditional toy; from a very young age, what they want for Baby Jesus or Santa is a latest-generation smartphone, a computer, or a tablet to stay glued to the internet. I feel they grow up too fast and miss out on that beautiful stage of simple childhood.

On the other hand, Christmas also has a very nostalgic side. As the lyrics of the song say, in these dates "some go happy and others go crying". In my personal opinion, December is a month where many emotions come together. There are families who are happy sharing at the table, but there are also many sad people because they remember loved ones who are no longer with us or because they are going through a difficult time. It is a month of contrasts.

Now that we are entering the final stretch of the year, I think it is worth rescuing that former essence. Let's not let technology or material things dim the true meaning of these dates, which is being with #family , helping those in need, and hugging from the heart.

I would like to know what you think in the comments: Do you remember this song? How do you see the difference between children from back then and today?
