Some time ago, through a program that I watched on television and that combined music with extreme sports, I met paragliding and from that moment I said to myself: I want to do that!
Al investigar un poco supe que había la posibilidad tanto de hacer un curso para ser piloto de esta aeronave considerada como la más ligera del mundo (15-20 kg), como también probar esta disciplina en la modalidad de vuelo tándem o biplaza, es decir, lanzarte acompañada por un piloto experimentado, con el simple propósito de sentirte un pájaro por un rato sin saber nada de cómo conducir el vuelo.
Upon doing a little research I knew that there was the possibility both of taking a course to be a pilot of this aircraft considered to be the lightest in the world (15-20 kg), as well as trying this discipline in the tandem or two-seater flight mode, that is to say, launch yourself accompanied by an experienced pilot, with the simple purpose of feeling like a bird for a while without knowing anything about how to conduct the flight.
Debido a que el curso tenía un costo alto y para continuar luego volando por tu cuenta necesitas comprar tus propios implementos, mi opción para experimentar este deporte extremo aunque fuera una vez, fue el vuelo tándem.
Because the course had a high cost and to continue flying on your own, you need to buy your own implements, my option to experience this extreme sport even once, was tandem flight.
Busqué por Internet quiénes ofrecían esta modalidad de vuelo y conseguí la Escuela de Parapente Soaring, la cual tiene varios años trabajando con esta disciplina, ha graduado a muchos pilotos y ha hecho miles de vuelos tándem.
I searched on the Internet who offered this type of flight and I got the Soaring Paragliding School, which has been working with this discipline for several years, has graduated many pilots and has made thousands of tandem flights.

Bien, ya con la información en mano mi próximo paso fue decirles a mi hermana y a varios amigos para ver si se animaban a volar. El grupo quedó conformado por mi hermana, dos amigos y yo.

Acordamos el día y un sábado en la mañana nos encontramos en la ciudad de La Victoria (estado Aragua), allí tomamos un taxi y nos fuimos al lugar de esta aventura, súper emocionados y también algo nerviosos jejeje.

El trayecto hasta allá es hermoso, pasamos a través de un valle rodeado por muchas montañas. Al llegar a Placivel, que es como se llama el lugar desde hace unos 30 años cuando comenzó a practicarse este deporta acá, ya había gente volando. Según nos comentaron, este sitio es considerado como una de las mejores zonas de Venezuela para volar en parapente.
The journey to get there is beautiful, we pass through a valley surrounded by many mountains. When we arrived at Placivel, which is what the place has been called for about 30 years when this sport began to be practiced here, there were already people flying. As they told us, this site is considered one of the best areas in Venezuela for paragliding.
La escuela comenzaba la jornada a las 10 de la mañana y las personas que nos habíamos inscrito para vivir la experiencia ese día, íbamos a volar por orden de llegada.

Para poder volar se llega hasta pendientes de cierta altura, como el lugar donde nos encontrábamos que tiene unos 1.500 metros sobre el nivel del mar, y desde allí se despega con el paracaídas abierto, corriendo hacia el vacío para ascender, hacer un recorrido y aterrizar.

Nos dijeron que cualquier persona puede volar en la modalidad tándem, no hay edad mínima ni máxima para hacerlo, siempre y cuando no tenga ningún problema cardíaco y sobre todo no pese más de 95 Kg, ya que los parapentes tienen un límite de kilos para volar.

Por ahí había zamuros disfrutando su territorio y unos metros más allá estaban otras personas volando, vi como un muchacho que también iba en tándem vomitó en el aire, menos mal que estábamos lejos jajaja, mi piloto les gritó: “¿toodooo bieeen?” y ambos hicieron la señal de ok con las manos.

Yo me sentí eufórica durante todo el vuelo que duró unos 20 minutos, no paraba de sonreír. I felt euphoric during the entire flight that lasted about 20 minutes, I couldn't stop laughing. I discovered another vision of the world from above, completely different from what you have being inside an airplane because with the paraglider you feel directly the wind on your face, your legs and arms free in the air. This experience definitely marked me and became one of the best I have ever lived.
Unos minutos antes de descender el piloto hizo algunas maniobras como dar vuelta en círculo para ponerle más emoción al vuelo y luego me dijo que me preparara para aterrizar.
A few minutes before descending, the pilot made some maneuvers such as turning in a circle to add more excitement to the flight and then told me to prepare to land.
Esta parte también es muy emocionante porque cuando ya estás cerca de tocar tierra la bajada se acelera y no sabes qué hacer aunque el piloto te diga “tranquila, da unos pasos suaves al tocar tierra o sube los pies” y entiendes que aterrizar sentada tocando el suelo con la silla también es una opción.

Allí había otros pilotos con las personas que ya habían volado como yo y estaban recogiendo los parapentes. Una camioneta nos esperaba para llevarnos de vuelta a la escuela.

Cuando llegué ya mi hermana estaba lista para realizar su vuelo y yo con la cámara en mano para registrar ese momento. El mismo piloto que voló conmigo se lanzó con ella. Me impresionó ver cómo durante su vuelo el piloto hizo algunas maniobras medio acrobáticas jejeje.
When I arrived, my sister was ready to make her flight and I with the camera in hand to record that moment. The same pilot who flew with me launched with her. I was impressed to see how during their flight the pilot did some half acrobatic maneuvers hehehe.
Seguidamente el turno fue para mi amiga Eloísa, cuando la pesaron le dijeron que tenían que poner en la silla un peso adicional para equilibrar porque ella era flaquita jejeje. También lo disfrutó al máximo y regresó con una sonrisa de oreja a oreja.
Then the turn was for my friend Eloísa, when they weighed her they told her that they had to put an additional weight on the chair to balance because she was skinny hehehe. She also enjoyed it to the fullest and returned with a grin from ear to ear.
El último del grupo en lanzarse fue Eleazar, él sí que estaba bastante nervioso, nosotras pensamos que se iba a echar para atrás. Le dimos ánimos mientras el piloto le colocaba el arnés y al final lo hizo con susto y todo jajaja.
The last of the group to fly was Eleazar, he was quite nervous, we thought he wasn't going to do it. We encouraged him while the pilot put the harness on him and in the end he did it despite the scare hahaha.
Todos quedamos súper contentos con esta experiencia extrema y con ganas de repetir en ese mismo momento jajaja. Sería genial hacerlo sobre una zona costera, viendo el mar.
We were all super happy with this extreme experience and wanting to repeat at that moment hahaha. It would be great to do it on a coastal area, watching the sea.
Recomiendo 100% volar en parapente en modalidad tándem, eso sí, en un lugar espectacular como este y con pilotos experimentados como los que tuvimos nosotros que te garantizan seguridad.
I recommend 100% paragliding in tandem mode, of course, in a spectacular place like this and with experienced pilots like the ones we had who guarantee you safety.
