Hay en La Habana muchos parque, pero este, sin dudas, posee una peculiaridad única en toda Cuba. Se trata del Parque John Lennon, ubicado en calle 17, entre 6 y 8, en el barrio El Vedado de La Habana, Cuba. >Hello, my friends at Daily Blog and everyone who stops by to visit me. I'm talking about John Lennon Park, located on Calle 17, between 6th and 8th streets, in the El Vedado neighborhood of Havana, Cuba.

Cada sábado, como en otros parques de la ciudad, aqui también hacen ferias agropecuarias donde la gente compra lo que puede. Iba de paso y pude ver que este sitio se convierte en un hervidor de personas que deambulan de un lado a otro en busca del aseguramiento y la logística de sus casas y negocios, porque en estas ferias los precios son ligeramente menos caros que en otra parte. >Every Saturday, like in other parks around the city, agricultural fairs are held here where people buy what they can. I was passing by and could see that this place becomes a beehive of people wandering from side to side, looking for supplies and logistics for their homes and small businesses, because at these fairs prices are slightly cheaper than elsewhere.

Este es un parque inmenso ya que ocupa toda una manzana. Es visitado con frecuencia por personas nacionales y foraneas. Posee muchos árboles que ofrecen amables sombras y unos pocos bancos de hierro. Justo en el centro del parque, hay una glorieta con una característica bien singular, y es que no tiene techo. Eso me pareció muy poco común, nunca había visto una así. >This is an enormous park, occupying an entire city block. It is frequently visited by both local and foreign visitors. It has many trees that offer pleasant shade and a few iron benches. Right in the center of the park, there is a gazebo with a very singular characteristic: it has no roof. I found that very unusual; I had never seen one like that.

En el parque existe, además, un busto de piedra desgastado del Maestro cubano de la masonería Don Fernando Suárez Núñez. Está colocado sobre una base en firma de triangulo y con tres escalones. Hay un escrito con una frase casi ilegible qué hace mención a una palabra que nunca había visto: Ajefismo. Y claro que enseguida fui a averiguar su significado. Según supe en mi búsqueda en Internet, "Ajefismo" es una palabra que se desprende de las siglas A.J.E.F. que significa ASOCIACION DE JOVENES ESPERANZA DE LA FRATERNIDAD. >In the park there is also a weathered stone bust of the Cuban Masonic master Don Fernando Suárez Núñez. Pero lo que hace a este parque un espacio especial, es una estatua de bronce a tamaño natural del famoso cantante inglés John Lennon. Director y vocalista de la banda británica Los escarabajos (The Beatles). Dicha estatua se encuentra sentada con las piernas cruzadas en uno de los bancos del parque como si disfrutará del paisaje del entorno y como si quisiera saludar a los transeúntes. >But what makes this park a special space is a life-sized bronze statue of the famous English singer John Lennon. Director and vocalist of the British band The Beatles. This statue sits cross-legged on one of the park benches, as if enjoying the surrounding landscape and greeting passersby.

Esta escultura resulta una atracción para todo el que pasa, que como yo, no puede resistirse a la tentación de tomarse una foto con el ídolo. Los cubanos, amantes de la buena música, por supuesto que también apreciamos los temas de este grupo de jóvenesque marcaron una época. De hecho, muy cerca del parque hay un club nocturno que lleva por nombre Yellow Submarine. En realidad, no es que el parque fuera creado para homenajear a Lennon, ya existía desde hacía mucho tiempo. Pero luego de colocada la estatua en el año 2000, pasó a llamarse Parque John Lennon. >This sculpture is an attraction for everyone who passes by, who, like me, cannot resist the temptation to take a photo with the idol. Cubans, lovers of good music, of course also appreciate the songs of this group of young men who marked an era. In fact, very close to the park there is a nightclub named Yellow Submarine. Un detalle curioso y hasta cierto punto simpático es que existe una persona encargada de poner y quitar los espejuelos a Lennon. Si, como lo oyen, bueno, como lo leen. El asunto es que en varias ocasiones estos delicados espejuelos redondos y de finas patas fueron robados. Razón por la que designaron a unos "guardianes" a custodarlos. Si alguien desea tomarse una foto con Lennon, ellos colocan los espejuelos y luego los retiran. Mala suerte la mía que en el momento de mi paso por el lugar, los "guardianes" no estaban por allí y me tuve que hacer la foto sin los demandados espejuelos. >A curious and even somewhat amusing detail is that there is a person in charge of putting on and taking off Lennon's glasses. Yes, you heard that right — well, as you read it. The thing is, on several occasions these delicate round glasses with thin frames were stolen. That's why they assigned some "guardians" to look after them. If someone wants to take a photo with Lennon, they put the glasses on, and then remove them later. Bad luck for me: when I was passing by the place, the "guardians" weren't around, so I had to take my photo without the coveted glasses.
