Yesterday, Ukraine commemorated the anniversary of the liberation of the city of Buch, which is near Kyiv. And so yesterday my old friend invited me to visit him in Bucha. The last time we met was a week before russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022. Then I drove through Gostomel and Bucha to visit him and was delighted at how comfortably and modernly these cities are being developed now. But in a week, these cities will take on a terrible mission - to stop the russian army in front of Kyiv. After my friend's call, I'll be honest, my feelings were ambiguous - on the one hand, I wanted to see each other after everything I'd experienced, but on the other hand, I understood how emotionally difficult it would be. And it was really incredibly difficult...
Terrible "pictures" greet the residents and guests of Buchi today. Once new and cozy roadside residential quarters stand in ruins. If earlier the road from Kyiv to Buchi in the evening took half an hour, yesterday we had to drive this ten kilometers for more than two hours. Because the destroyed bridge over the Irpin River is still being rebuilt, and the temporary crossing cannot cope with the large flow of traffic.
My friend lives in the old part of Buchi, on Kyivo-Myrotska Street. It was through this street that the first russian soldiers entered Buchi, and it was from here that the terrible bloody crimes of the russians began. At the beginning of the invasion, the comrade's family managed to leave, and he himself had to stay because of work, and when it was already late, they as a whole team hid in the forest for a month, watching the rockets and shells flying overhead. But luckily, everyone survived.
A friend's house in Buch survived. Rather, the walls survived, because the orcs took everything that was inside - furniture, appliances, clothes, and, of course, toilets and showers from the bathrooms. And they set up their base in the house itself, because their block post was nearby, for which they were responsible. They did not live in the house itself, but in the basement, where they spread mattresses on the floor, and the rooms of the house were used as a toilet.
After many weeks of cleaning after de-occupation and recently completed renovation, you can't say that the house was like in post-apocalyptic movies - but all the same, it is impossible to get rid of this "energy" after the russians, even the elderly owner's cat cannot help it.
But despite everything, Bucha comes to life, people continue to live on. Having the financial opportunity to go live abroad, my friends chose their home and their country. Because life is where people live. We sat talking until the morning, drank from such glasses with bullets and did not tell even half of everything that we wanted to share. Therefore, we hope that the next meeting will be very soon.
