I've always wanted to go to Puerto Rico since I came to the states. I finally went there September last year and it became one of my most dramatic trips ever! If you are planning to go, following tips may be helpful.
Timing is everything: The first reason puerto rico is timing sensitive is because I met hurricane Irma (one of the biggest hurricanes in PR) during my trip and it became a disaster. All of my plans were canceled and the worst thing was my flight back home was also canceled... four times!! So steer clear of September and October which are the hurricane season in Puerto Rico.
Another reason timing is so important is because of the Bioluminescent bay which is a must-see in Puerto Rico. If you ever watched Life of Pi, you'd remember the magic and magnificent wonder. There are only few places where you can experience it in the whole world and Puerto Rico has been declared to have the brightest one. "New Moon" is the best phase to experience it, so check the calendar before you go!
Traffic:
Traffic between islands: There are several islands you can visit in Puerto Rico and you can go between them by either ferry or flight. I would strongly recommend flight especially if you're seasick. The view is amazing and you don't have to get up at 6am to line up to get the ferry ticket.
Traffic on islands: Renting a car is a good choice if you're planning to explore more. But parking is a bit difficult especially in old San Juan. So if you just want to stay in hotel and enjoy the beach, Uber would be a wiser choice. It's cheap and convenient. (Taxis are way more expensive)
Hotel & restaurant recommendation
restaurant: OMG I love puerto rico food! Although I gained like 8 pounds, I would definitely come back just for the amazing food! Following are my favorites.
Punto de Vista Restaurant: a very popular place with rooftop view. Their rice is sooooo good!!
El Jibartio: Great food with reasonable price. The Island Cube steak and red snapper are amazing.
Casita Miramar: A pricey but absolutely delicious restaurant. Perfect for a romantic date night!
Hotel: I stayed at three different hotels. All of them are amazing:
Villa Herencia Hotel. It is in old San Juan and is close to everything. The staff was really friendly. Plus, it has the best coffee I've ever had in my life! One thing i didn't really like is that it's not sound-proof so you can hear basically everything!
The second hotel is in Fajardo It's called Las Casitas, A Waldorf Astoria Resort. It is a huge resort with the most phenomenal view ever. It has everything from infinite pool to golf course. It even has its own private island where you can horseback ride, have fun in the water park or just lie on the beach, isn't that amazing?!
The last hotel I stayed at is a boutique hotel called Olive Boutique in San Juan. It's small but beautiful, and it's close to most restaurants. Pretty amazed by their unique style and artistic atmosphere.
I love everything about Puerto Rico(well except the hurricane), will come back soon!

波多黎各是美属领地，有美签就可以自己出入，流通货币也是美元。主要语言，包括路上的路标还是西班牙语，但是大部分商家都能够说英语的。 和其他海岛不一样，波多黎各并不是一个适合纯放松度假在沙滩上躺一周的地方，它有美国唯一的热带雨林，有绝美的荧光海，想要玩遍是需要一定体力的。
波多黎各由很多岛组成，除了主岛之外，主要能游玩的还有Culebra和Vieques（简称C岛和V岛）。C岛很小，水上项目很多，有排名世界第二美的Flemenco海滩。但是住宿很差，建议坐小飞机一天来回。V岛主要是看荧光海（主岛上的Fajardo也能看，但没有V岛的亮）。要去V岛看荧光海就必须住一晚，住宿比C岛要好，有W酒店。如果大家时间充裕，还可以去附近的维京群岛看看，海滩比波多黎各更美更惊艳。
大家选择出行的时候注意避开飓风季（9-10月）哦，我们就因为飓风困在岛上一周，最后差点回不来。另外给大家一个小tip，如果你的航班被取消，不要再在网站或者电话里改签，尤其是因为天气等原因大面积取消的时候，网站或者电话是一定订不到改签票的。大家直接跑到机场柜台，工作人员会马上给你改最早的航班的。
