Hello lovelies, today is a that day that I want to talk about my duty as a Best Man for the second time in my life.
The first was with my elder brother some years back and now,it's for a friend.
MY ANXIETY
Naturally am a shy person who finds it uncomfortable being in a crowd,but my friend didn't want to get a No for an answer.
He said you're a professional actor,why should you be shy in the crowd. By the way, how do you stand in front of the camera and your fellow star actors? I told him that it is a different Ball game,I have a life outside Acting,he said anyways that's my cup of tea,that he's using me as his Best Man because of my popularity as a Nollywood Actor.
Fast forward to the D-Day,my anxiety increased so bad,I had several rehearsals in front of my mirror in my hotel room ,I asked myself several times ARE YOU READY FOR THIS,YOU KNOW YOU CAN DO THIS?
I came out of my room,fully dressed in my crisp black suit, yellow tie and was feeling fly,I summoned courage and went to the Grooms room,his eyes popped and he was showering me with so much accolades. I said Hey,it's your day today, make good use of it.
I went straight into the wardrobe, brought out his suit,shoe,tie,etc and I started helping him dress and made sure I limit him from seeing so many people at that point because the presiding pastor had started calling.
Immediately,we asked the Bride and her crew to hurry because the pastor had given us a time limit saying if he doesn't see us in the next 15 minutes, he'll Walk out of the church.
See scampering here and there and this whole delay was due to his insistent of staying over at his Bachelors Eve.
The ladies right now became our challenge because of their makeup lifestyle,you can agree with me how long it takes a lady to sit in front of the mirror.
Fast forward to the church,we drove like Fast and Furious part 3, suddenly,we drove into the church premises,came down,I ran straight to the pastor and apologized for the delay due to holdup on the road.
He said please can we start,that we're behind schedule. I hurried back to the car, arranged them and we started marching in.
Back to my anxiety,I felt a rush of adrenaline inside of me,I became unbelievably bold,but yet made no eye contact with anyone by the side,I set my gaze on the pulpit,at same time,I was missing my dance steps because I was trying not to make eye contact with our friends who vowed to laugh at me if I made any mistakes.
At the joining,the pastor asked for the ring and suddenly I turned and noticed that the ring bearer was playing outside...,.Phew,how do I walk out of this crowd and go outside. I then noticed that I was having alot of space in my suit,heyyy,did I just shed weight being shy,yes!!
I saw myself walking out in Mr Bean steps,my gaze to the left,I saw my friends laughing uncontrollably,I shrunk further. I eventually got outside,grabbed the ring bearer and used him as a shield back into the church. I dropped him on the floor asked him to bring out the ring given to him,he started looking confused. oh my God,I prayed in my heart that nothing should take me out of the church again until the marching out,else,I would pass out in front of the crowd. suddenly I dipped my hand in his pants trouser and brought it out, with a sigh of relief,I handed it to the Bride.
After the end of exchange of vows,we went into the office to sign the marriage register.
Coming out ,we went on to take pictures, from there,I ran into the car screaming I DID IT,I DID IT.
Will bring you another funny experience I had in another crowd.
