The world is created in a way that no man is self sufficient. Nobody is born and becomes independent immediately to do things by himself without the help of others.
Somehow, infants rely on their parents, siblings and well wishers to survive in a world they know nothing about.
This reliance goes on to the time we started schooling until we are mentally and financially okay to take care of ourselves.
Without being told, we know we owe them gratitude. No matter how rich we become later in life, we can never repay them.
That is where our gratitude first lies. We need not forget also that the community play a major role in shaping us. We were directly or indirectly affected by the community we belong.
We also owe it gratitude by serving it and helping other children grow in any capacity we can contribute.
While we never thought of it as a duty, we need to know that this simple act or gesture go a long way in making us who we are today.
Gratitude simply means the act of being thankful and showing of appreciation for kindness received.
There is an African adage that says 'when a child says thank you for things received yesterday, he will receive another one'.
This strengthens my argument on the importance of being grateful.
Imagine someone gave you money as a gift, when you see the person, you forget to show appreciation or deliberately felt it doesn't worth it.
If such person gift you another thing, it means the person is a devoted believer who has truly killed anything 'human'.
If not, you will be seen as an ungrateful fellow who will not say thank you even if one go through fire to help you.
In all you do, never underestimate the power of being grateful for every slightest kindness done to you.
The kindness might have been shown to someone else. But it was shown to you which means you should simply say thank you.
Gratitude is an habit we must cultivate to move forward in life. Like saying sorry, showing gratitude takes nothing from you.
In fact, it shows you are humble and deserve every act of kindness you can get.
It propel people to do more for you. It is like sowing seeds. You will surely reap bountifully.
