Tapping into these resources would help grow these developing economies but something devastating is standing in the way, making the land unprofitable to farm and driving much of the rural poor to the cities in search of a better life.
Developed countries negotiate trade agreements that are most favorable to themselves. They too want to keep their farmers on the land and so subsidies their farming activities.
The surplus produce is then dumped on emerging markets at prices well below the local production costs.
After the fact they promise aid and in-debt the developing world further and make them more reliant on handouts.
Solving their own problems at home instead of forcing their problems onto the very nations they are supposedly committed to giving a hand up would be a better solution than biased trade agreements struck with corrupt officials in emerging markets.
