El día de ayer se celebró en los colegios el día de las matemáticas, esa unidad curricular tan temida por todos, grande y pequeño. Pero... ¿es tan temible? El mundo se basa en calcular, así que desde niños debemos aprender las operaciones básicas.
Este tipo de fechas conmemorativas son propicias para plantear temas que suelen presentarse de forma espontánea, así por ejemplo aprovechamos justificar las "sumas, restas, multiplicaciones y divisiones" de la vida.
Los padres a veces nos encontramos con las caritas de nuestros niños preguntando la razón de la existencia de los números; esto es normal, porque los pequeños se enfrentan a las sumas, restas, a la tabla de multiplicar y luego que tienen más, simplemente tienen que dividir. Esto nos hace intentar explicarles la importancia de los números más allá de las teorías.
A nuestros pequeños, entonces, les podemos preguntar: ¿Se imaginan un mundo sin números?
Quizá ellos comiencen a analizar cuáles razones hay para la interrogante, por lo cual les debemos orientar a ¿Cómo conocemos cuanto miden mes a mes?, ¿Cómo sabemos su peso? tan importante porque así podemos darles la cantidad correcta de medicina necesaria cuando están enfermos, además, la importancia de los números que nos permiten llevar la cuenta de sus años y hasta tener el conteo de sus dientes. ¡Seguramente nuestros pequeños sonreían!
Lo importante es identificar en los niños su forma de aprender…
¿Cómo aprendemos?
El aprendizaje puede estar definido en algunos niños con la capacidad de ver los números e identificarlos, en otros niños puede estar más asociado a escuchar como se denomina cada uno, quizá para otros sea importante escribir los números para reconocerlos y seguramente, con el tiempo será importante y necesario para todos realizar operaciones básicas con ellos.

Justamente, el día de ayer fue el día de las matemáticas, antes solo imaginábamos calcular usando lápiz, hoja, borrador y reglas, ahora la generación de nuestros niños puede realizar animaciones y estudiar matemáticas de forma digital, una ventaja extraordinaria para lograr competencias nuevas.
Como experiencia del día, mi hija estudiaba para su evaluación de hoy sobre ejes cartesianos, emocionada me dijo que le había gustado este tema, esto es bonito, el amor a las matemáticas es tan importante como el amor a la lectura o las ciencias, paso a paso se crean los perfiles de nuestros niños.
Lo que sucedió a continuación fue que hoy Haniel regresó feliz del colegio, con su evaluación aprobada y con cuantificación máxima en la escala (otra ventaja de las matemáticas), ella recibió felicitaciones de sus abuelos, y por su puesto de una mami orgullosa por estos logros del día a día.
Podría decir, sin duda que hoy celebramos las matemáticas. Pero si es cierto, que lo importante de la vida es como dicen por allí, + sumar alegrías, restar lo malo, multiplicar todo lo bueno y dividir lo necesario para ayudar a otros en lo que podamos.
Inculcar el valor de elementos importantes en nuestra vida como las matemáticas, nos asegura una generación de niños que serán futuros individuos con cualidades calculadas, sobre todo con respeto a todo aquello que conforma la existencia y así, también, el desarrollo cognitivo acorde a la academia.
