This sector is clearly in an uptrend with higher highs and higher lows, rising 200 day moving average and rising 50 day moving average.

When financial assets are in a strong uptrend it is a great time to sell puts after a temporay pullback such as the current 8% pullback in Semiconductor stocks.

We all use semiconductors every day to run the electronics we love whether from smartphone, tablet, or computer, you're benefiting from semiconductors right now.

The demand for these chips is rising. The market intelligence firm International Data Corporation projects global smartphone sales will hit $548 billion this year, up 10% from 2016. And it projects 7% growth in 2018.

According to market research firm IHS Markit, the world is expect to increase spending from $94 billion in 2016 to $117 billion by 2021.

The simplest way to trade semiconductor stocks is with the VanEck Vectors Semiconductor Fund (SMH). The $1.3 billion fund holds a basket of 26 companies, including Intel, Taiwan Semiconductor (TSM), Nvidia (NVDA), and Micron.

As you can see below, the fund is in a big uptrend this year. It recently pulled back 8%. It has succesfully test the uptrend line and is rising again.

Trade details:

Sell the February 16, 2018 $98 puts on SMH for $2.30 use a limit order. You will receive a 2.3% upfront payout on your purchase obligation for agreeing to buy shares at a 1.5% discount to yesterday's closing price of $99.53. This represents a 14.8% annualized return over the two month holding period.

If SMH closes below $98 on expiration day you will be assigned 100 shares of stock for every put sold at which point selling covered calls could be used to generate more income.

For protection if the ETF falls below $92 per share (about 7% below yesterday's closing price) close the option position with a buy to close order. Use a hard stop on today's position at $92.

Collecting large upfront payments has never been easier.
