Sometimes clouds are just clouds, floating along in the sky, providing shade and rain or snow. And then sometimes clouds are not at all as they seem to be, for instance these clouds enveloping the harsh and rugged Mount Oso in the San Juan Mountains deep in the Colorado Rocky Mountains.
Mount Oso is a high and prominent mountain summit in the San Juan Mountains range of the Rocky Mountains of North America. The 13,690-foot (4,173 m) peak is located in the Weminuche Wilderness of San Juan National Forest. (Research Source)
I lensed this image of Mount Oso peeking out from within the cloud cover while exploring the San Juan Mountain Range from Mesa Verde to the San Luis Valley near Alamosa, Colorado.
Also known locally as the "Hunchback" due to its bulky shape and size, Mount Oso was covered in clouds as I flew around it on this cold winters day. This illustrates the inherent danger flying through clouds without knowing exactly where you are and where the mountains are.
