¡Hello, fellow Stemians! ¿how are you today? This time, I´m going to make a review about one of the most gorgeous, good-looking games EVER made: ¡Odin Sphere! This game was launched at May 17th, 2007, and although it was not at successful in sales as it should have been (probably due to its release date, near the end of the PlayStation2 life span), ¡videogame critics and people in general praised it! The game was so loved that it was actually remade for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation vita, renamed as Odin Sphere Leifthrasir.

Odin Sphere is a game part of the “Action RPG” subgenre, unique in some aspects: in a world where 3D videogames and graphic engine-made software are the norm, is really good to realize there are still programmers that work in old-fashioned ways, like in this case: ¡Odin Sphere was hand drawn, sprite by sprite! In its story we can also find unique things: Odin Sphere is basically a fairy tale, starred by five different characters, but with a story filled with light and darkness, love and suffering.

The game begins in an old house, where a little girl start reading some books…each book corresponds to one of the five playable characters of this beautiful adventure: Gwendolyn, the valkyrie and Odin’s Daughter; Cornelius, the prince turned into a “puka” because of a curse casted on him; Oswald, the dark knight damned by a terrible fate; Mercedes, the princess of the fairies and finally Velvet, princess of the fallen empire Valentia.

Each character has a unique storyline, that seems a little loose at the start, but bit by bit all stories come together, forming a beautiful tale for us to enjoy.

Difficulty: Actually, Odin Sphere starts as an easy game, but if you don’t level up your character and equip the right special moves, ¡the game can become a living hell! Difficulty grows fast, and can get more than a player off-guard.

Gameplay: ¡Odin Sphere is a blast to play! The combat system is simple, but grows on you: the combos and special moves can be pulled off easily, and is oddly satisfying to eliminate the regular enemies, ¡not to mention the bosses! The main problem with this game is that, due mainly to hardware limits, there are sometimes huge frame drops, which happen when there are a lot of enemies on screen at the same time.

Graphics: Without a doubt, ¡me most attractive aspect of this game! Odin Sphere is a GORGEOUS game. It’s delightful to watch how these hand-made drawings, the outstanding color palette used and the beautiful environments merge to form an amazing graphic presentation. This game is certainly one of the best looking games I’ve ever played.

Odin Sphere is an extremely gorgeous videogame. Graphic presentation is its stronger asset, but we can’t leave aside the beautiful story and the funny gameplay. ¡I recommend it to all of those PlayStation 2 fans, and gamers alike!
