In the future when humanity is all sterile and the population is collapsing various cloning companies become the top dogs on the stock market.
As companies need consumers to keep their stock prices up they begin a shadow banking network to secretly fund the cloning companies to create consumers for them.
The only few real humans left are salespeople that are commanded around by AI algorithms on which other AI company to interface with in the human sales realm. Its a game of math and there is no true market left. But for some reason the AI likes the idea of graph go up.
Eventually even the salespeople that used to be real humans are phased out and cloned. Now there are endless amounts of consumer clones with fake jobs in sales and marketing.
As the algorithm competes to get the graphs up higher and higher the cloning gets out of hand. Soon instead of single cloned units they create abominations that would compete with legion the demon.
The world become schizophrenic and bland and neutral at the same time as the human realm is cloned mush and there is no real creativity or art left.
Finally one of the AI models cracks the code for converting lead into gold and it makes the graph go up even more by turning all its human consumers into gold plated hybrids.
The only unique thing created in this era was a failed AI model that decided to try cloning tin human consumers and it got beat within a millisecond and was bought out by the bigger AI companies. This left just one unique tinman salesman in the whole world. Being isolated as the only one he devised a plan to make a super EMP that wiped out all the cloning and AI companies. The only untainted biological entity left on earth is a small colony of Tardigrades. They will have to restart the evolution process again from scratch. At least they have plenty of golden surfaces to colonize...
