An ancient alien crash landed on earth billions of years ago. As a last resort for keeping a memory of its race it made an indestructible bust of itself before running out of food kits on its ship. Now this bust must stand the test of time until a sentient lifeform finds it.
About 1,000 years later the crash landed site became submerged in water and a strange choral lifeform used it as a surface to grow on.
A few million years later the earth's orbit got closer to the sun causing desertification which then killed all the choral.
A few million years later a comet almost directly hit the crash site almost melting it. Instead the strange alloy the bust was made out of created interesting glass surfaces with iridescent properties.
Now the earth's orbit is oblong and an ice age has frozen the glass and cracked it.
After another 10,000 years the ice melted and fungi took over everything causing the bust to be covered in fungal slime.
Now it is time for the era of volcanoes. As they erupted and spewed lava everywhere the secret forcefield inside the bust had to make scales on the exterior to protect the legacy of the ancient astronaut.
Finally after all the lava cooled down the earth's equator rotated to where the crash site was. Now plants have covered the bust and they took on some strange qualities based on the rare alloys they grew on.
Finally a sentient life form has arisen and discovered the bust. Now the humans realize it looks a lot like them and thus they decided to shoot all sorts of munitions at it to see if this is a potential alien threat. As each weapon hit the surface it made interesting patterns but the forcefield held and the human scientists learned nothing about the origin of the bust.
After a hundred years of testing the Area 51 lab sold it off at an auction to a tech nerd. The tech nerd decided to try and hook it up to wifi for a gaming backdrop. Soon the bust figured out the wifi technology and began morphing to take over the internet. Now the ancient astronaut is able to transfer its consciousness into the internet and influence all humans. Now for some reason they all want to build space ships and explore other planets. Let's hope they learn not to crash this time.
