Here are some sightings for the new year on #sublimesunday

I finally got my first clear shot of a pileated woodpecker. We went out for a New Years walk and saw a pair of them in the forest. I got out an just waited and watched them for some good shots.

Most of my shots looked like this. They would basically peak out from the side of the tree look at me then zoom up the tree on the side facing away from me.

At least there were two of them to try and get good shots of while they dodged me.

Finally some other people walked by and they got distracted by them and I was able to get better shots of them.

Fortunately I was wearing camouflage clothes so they seemed to have forgotten I was still standing there while the other people passed by.

Finally they made the rounds to every other tree and went out of sight into the forest.

Later I saw a crowned sparrow trying to warm up in the sun.

This gal was much more tame and let me get some decent shots.

Otherwise the only other shots I got was of the Canada geese. They'll probably hang around here all year unless we get a polar vortex that freezes all the rivers.

That's all for now, here's hoping for some good bird sightings in 2026.
