I love to go camping in Wisconsin.

This camping trip was to Wildcat Mountain part of the area of the Midwest that didn't get flattened by the last ice age.

We arrived at the campground at night and had to setup in the dark.

The key is to setup a fire first then it adds a bit of light to help you setup.

The campground for each camping site is equipped with a nice fire pit and grill and they are spaced out far apart from each other.

The next morning sunrise we got nice colors to look at in the sky.

Fortunately it didn't rain, this tent is really bad at keeping out the water. If it rains we usually end up with an inch of water inside because the seams let in the water everywhere.

Surrounding the campsite are a few different trails and overlooks off the mountain. You can see farms off in the background.

This mountain is full of interesting sandstone rock formations.

Another fun thing to do in this area is to go canoeing on the Kickapoo River. There are a few places you can cheaply rent a canoe and go down the river then get picked up down the river and driven back to where you started out from. This is a cave inlet off the side of the river we stopped at for a snack.

My favorite thing to look for while camping is mushrooms. On this trip there were lots of orange mycena just starting to pin.

I also found a nice edible mushrooms called Hericium americanum with a common name of bear's head/tooth mushroom. It has a very mild taste and a texture similar to crab meat. Because of its mild taste it goes well with spices and is more of a textural element to add to a meal.

I have many other images from this trip but I'll save them for another post sometime. Thanks for looking :-)
