The whole month is dedicated to the artist Sophie Taeuber-Arp (19.01.1889 - 13.01.1943). She was a Swiss artist and it's the 75th anniversary of her death this month.
She was a multi disciplinary artist, engaging in a lot of different activities.
She was a apinter, sculptor, textile designer, furniture and interior designer, architect and dancer and she was also active in the Dada Art Movement.
During her time in Zurich the Dada Movement centered around the Cabaret Voltaire. She took part in Dada inspired performances as a dancer, choreographer and puppeteer. She designed puppets, costumes and sets not only for the Cabaret Voltaire but also for other Swiss and French theaters.
This week we want to engage in building puppets like she did. We will have to decide what materials to use and how to construct them as there is little information available about how she did them.
We will have to rely on the few photographs one can find about her puppets.
It will be a challenging but also very fun task as we haven't done something like that before!
Feel free to join us and upload your work in the comments.
At the moment we haven't gathered enough interest to make a contest out of our weekly challenges but we are hoping this will turn i nto a full contest with prize money and rules and so on, soon.
Until then
