Hey Hivers,

Have you seen cactus flowers of varying colors?

I have some potted cactus plants at home and this year they miraculously gave flowers of different colors.

Big cactuses are not primarily grown for their flowers but more because they are drought tolerant and need just a little care. They are beautiful additions to landscapes while helping with water conservation.

The small potted cactuses, however, serve as ornamental, and they yield beautiful and colorful flowers amid their thorns. Although the moon cactus flower has spines, it is still a beauty to behold because of the vivid colors of pink, yellow and red.

The old lady pincushion has a flower at its center that looks like a cushion and perhaps that is how it got its name.

The old lady cactus is covered with white spines. It looks like the head of an old lady with white hair but likewise has a beautiful and unique flower.

The desert cactus while it’s not as thorny as the moon cactus or the old lady pincushion, is still considered in the family of cactus and have bright pink colors.

The thorns of the cactuses are leaves that mature into thorns, and it is nature’s way of shielding them from being eaten by animals. The thorns also serve as their umbrella to cover them from heat and slow down the evaporation of water collected by the plant during the cooler nights or from fogs in the morning.
