I read about Xiù miàn zūn (秀麵尊) Ramen restaurant online. It had garnered good reviews so I decided to check it out myself. Before I show you the ramen restaurant, I want to show you this zebra crossing outside. After I got off the bus I had to cross the road to get to the restaurant. On my left hand side were two more crossings spreading out like a V shape. I thought this is quite unusual, and want to show you guys.

Back to the ramen place. It's located in an oldish building, that's one the the things that rates it quite high, as it's the overall ambience that counts, not just the food.

There's a chalkboard sign outside the restaurant with the opening times, and one important message. During weekdays they only sell 50 bowls of ramen each day, and 100 over the weekends. I came at lunch time so i should be pretty safe.

The decor inside is quite nostalgic mixed with a contemporary touch. Upon entrance , the left hand side has ramen written in big Chinese calligraphy writing. Powerful yet funky. A bit further in is a big image of a mountain with a Japanese torii in front. The counter had white tiles on the wall and exposed ventilation pipes. Overall this was a very contemporary look.

The right hand is a contrast. This is the nostalgic side. Terrazzo flooring, old windows, with traditional window guards on the outside. And the sun was flushing through the window.

Xiù miàn zūn sells limited bowls of ramen each day, but you can choose between the five variations. They have three different soup bases, and different types of garnish. They also do a handful of side dishes. It's not an extensive menu, quality over quantity.

My bowl of ramen came with pork slices and a soft boiled egg. The egg was cooked very well, the center was perfect. Everything about the bowl of ramen was actually very good. From the ramen itself, the soup base and the pork. No wonder it has such good reviews. Definitely one to look our for. And don't forget, come during lunch time to be safe.
