One of our residents in our security community posted in our chat group that they need to find a new home for their 1 year old Chocolate Labrador. Unfortunately we are full up and there is no ways I am adding a third dog to the current zoo. What stood out for me on this story was the paperwork they have for their Labrador from Puppy World.

I was reading the contract which tries to tie you in to using their inhouse vets for obvious reasons as that is where they generate their future income. If you use your local vet which would be the obvious choice you will lose the "warranty" on your puppy. Purchasing a pure bred puppy is not cheap and can range anywhere between $1K and $6K depending on the breed and by the time you have all the add ons like registrational fees and inoculations you would be looking at another $1K so it is a 10 -12 year commitment when purchasing a puppy.

I would never purchase a puppy through a business and would find a specialist breeder which for me would be someone who loves animals and is not just breeding for profit even though it is a business as well. This Puppy World is far to commercial for my liking and why it turns my stomach seeing this type of business dealing with puppies.

Every puppy we have had we would take to our local vet within the first few weeks making sure they have had their injections and that they are micro chipped and then booked in for sterilization which happens when they are 6 months old or in and around that time frame.

What they are telling the owners of their puppies is overkill in what they are telling them to do. WE had our puppies inoculated and it was never multiple visits and once done we are reminded 12 months later their rabies shots etc are due. There was a also a tick/flea deworming course they prescribed making sure they maximize their sales. I am sure their is some pet insurance that was taken out at the time and this puppy purchase would have taken on an entire new level of cost due to all the add ons. I guess if you have never had dogs before you may fall into the trap of thinking all of this is a good idea until you learn otherwise later on how you were scammed. Puppy World and the vet involved could be the same business or partners making sure they both financially benefit form the deal. This is not about the welfare of the puppy and more about how much they can make because I know the annual costs regarding veterinary bills and they are minimal and we do not cut corners. The family pets in our house are treated the same way as family members sometimes to my horror, but I do understand as it is your commitment as a pet owner to their well being. We shall see how this ends up as I hope someone offers this Chocolate Labrador a home because my family are too soft and will be the first in line if no home is found. My head says we are going to be moving and do not want an extra passenger for that process because this is only a 1 year old puppy and that means many more years. We had a Chocolate Labrador called Truffle pass away not that long ago and they are wonderful intelligent dogs that are used by hunters to retrieve their prey they have shot and why they have a flat tail for swimming.
