Hello, Hive Pets Community!

Yesterday was one of those extremely hot days here in the Philippines. The heat was almost unbearable, and while I could somehow manage it, I couldn't stop thinking about my beloved Chow Chow, Cardo. As many pet owners know, Chow Chows have thick double coats that make them extra sensitive to hot weather. Seeing Cardo lying around and panting more than usual made me worry that he was feeling uncomfortable because of the intense heat.

Normally, I would simply turn on the air conditioner to keep the house cool. However, I decided not to use it this time. My air conditioner is already overdue for cleaning. The last time it was professionally cleaned by my aircon technician friend was about eight months ago.

In fact, I tried using it last week, and I immediately noticed something wasn't right. Usually, the living room becomes cool within about 20 to 30 minutes. This time, it took much longer, and the cooling performance wasn't as efficient as before. That made me hesitant to keep using it until I schedule a proper cleaning. I don't want to risk damaging the unit or causing bigger problems later.

Since Cardo's comfort was my main concern, I thought of a simple solution. I filled three plastics with ice and placed them directly in front of the air cooler. The idea was simple: as the air cooler pushed air forward, it would pass over the ice and produce cooler airflow around Cardo's favorite resting area. It may not be as powerful as an air conditioner, but honestly, it worked surprisingly well. The air felt noticeably cooler, and Cardo seemed much more comfortable afterward. Seeing him relax quietly instead of panting heavily gave me peace of mind.

As fur parents, we sometimes find creative and practical ways to help our pets during challenging weather. Not every solution needs to be expensive. Sometimes, a few blocks of ice, a fan, and a little extra effort can make a big difference for our furry family members.

Cardo may not understand why I was moving ice containers around the house but seeing him comfortable and safe was more than enough reward for me.

I really need to schedule my aircon cleaning soon, especially since the hot season can be tough on both humans and pets. Until then, my homemade cooling setup will have to do.
