I may have have definitely found myself a new favorite Latte in town!
For a couple of years, Tabaq has been my (and @riz611 bhai's) undisputed favorite for Lattes in Dhaka. Tabaq has finally been dethroned. It's sad because tabaq has seen me through some of my toughest, most hectic days before my MRCP exams - both part 1 and 2, and it never disappointed. But boy oh boy! The Courtyard latte! The taste of it still lingers on!
In all honesty, we weren't even there for the coffee to begin with. But if there's Latte on the menu, I'm more likely than not to have a go. Even if it is at 7 pm! So while my wife and I waited for our dinner to be served, I decided to try out their Latte.
The Courtyard was a very nice, posh looking place. I have mentioned on multiple occasions in the past, the ambience of a place matters as much as the coffee itself and now that I think of it, the place had such a soothing vibe that I didn't want to miss the felling of sipping a cuppa under the fiery orange-ish lights!
I particularly liked the simplistic Tree decor. The lights were nothing too fancy and flashy, rather much more subtle hints of vintage elegance.
I consider myself a self-proclaimed coffee expert. What is a good coffee differs from person to person, every palate functions differently. So rather than knowing a what a good coffee is, I pride myself in knowing what a "bad" coffee tastes like. And I am an expert because I myself have made my share of "Bad" coffee when I first bought my espresso machine!
This latte however was anything but bad! The texture was silky. The milk was just creamy enough to blend in very smoothly with the espresso shot and they nailed the balance between bitterness and sweetness!
Our dinner that followed wasn't too far behind either. We started off with a serving of Beef Chaply (I think that's what it was called lol!) with naan and creamy mushroom soup. It was basically beef kebab, very tender and juicy.
The service was prompt and in no time we were served our next course, "Mutton Rogan Gosh." Mutton is my wife's favorite, I am not a big fan of mutton myself. It was probably the only disappointing dish of the night and I'd still rate it a 7/10!
We ended the date with something light - Grilled Fish with Butter Rice and Sauteed Vegetable. I think it was good decision to keep it for the last. The rich texture of the previous meals were starting to make us feel heavy.
I didn't care much for the dip, but the fish we cooked well, and the veg crunchy enough for my liking!
I will be looking for excuses to drop by Dhanmondi and have a cup of their latte again soon! ;)
