Race Day is Here!!🤗
Nope not Silvertop, today is the annual “Ski to Sea” team relay race!😊
This is a big deal in the Pacific Northwest! It marks Memorial Day weekend, and the end of the Ski season on Mt. Baker!🤗
This all started in 1973, the roads coming down the Mountain are closed today to vehicles, for the safety of the competitors!
“Hi Alma, I see you are working traffic safety for Ski to Sea!
Alma is one of Silvertop’s neighbors up the road. In small towns you run into your neighbors everywhere Lol!🤣
This race starts with cross country Skiing, then downhill Skiing, then it transitions to running, road bikes, canoeing, and finally Sea Kayaking at the Pacific Ocean!

Many people that live along the main road will pull up chains and cheer on the competitors! By the time they reach Silvertop’s neck of the woods, they are in the “Road Bike” part of the relay race. By 11:30 AM we were on our way back home from Church when we ran into Alma…….
The last of the bikers were coming through town………many looked very tired!🥹
