Hello Nature Lovers! Let me tell you about an exciting and usual experience I had the other day! This my entry to the Amazing Nature Contest!
H A I L
Hail is a form of solid precipitation. It consists of balls or irregular lumps of ice, each of which is called a hailstone.
In my entire number of years that I have lived in California (or in Hawaii for that matter), I have not experienced hail as I did the other day.
It started as a thunderstorm. Within minutes, it progressed to a hailstorm!
Hail is produced during thunderstorms in cumulonimbus clouds.
It is created when a thunderstorm has an updraft that carries rain droplets up into the extremely cold areas of the Earth's upper atmosphere.
A diagram showing how hail forms during a thunderstorm. An updraft pushes moisture into the upper atmosphere where it freezes.

I wonder how many years will go by before another hail will occur? I can't remember the last time it happened. Perhaps it happened twenty years ago??? Still, it was not this extensive!
I was so enthralled by the hail. I almost forgot to take photos! The photos that I show were taken after the hailstorm.
This is the view from my Music Room. It would have been great if I was able to take photos while it as hailing. Oh, well!
WOW, what a hailstorm!
The area where Colorado, Nebraska and Wyoming meet is widely considered hail alley. A hail alley is where hailstorms are most common.
I am glad it is a mild one!
Even so, it surely does not fail to fulfill my hopes or expectations to show us how Amazing Nature is!Spanish
