I got myself another Britannia for the year, because of another design of the obverse from the first one that came out.
The Type 2 2023 1 oz Silver Britannia, features the first-ever effigy of King Charles III.
Coin Highlights
1 Troy Oz of pure 999 fine silver bullion;
A new mintage design featuring the face of King Charles III in the obverse;
Micro-text, latent image, tincture lines, and surface animation as security features;
Reverse designer: Philip Nathan; Obverse designer: Martin Jennings;
Legal tender within the UK with a face value of 2 pounds.
The image of the Britannia has a history which goes back as far as the Roman occupation of the British Isles. Her image held a status that was equal to that of other goddesses in Roman society, representing protection of the land. The modern image of the guardian dates back about 300 years when the formation of the United Kingdom was finalized. This is why the image on the Silver Britiannia contains a Corinthian helmet holding a shield bearing the Union Jack.
The longest-reigning queen in British history, Queen Elizabeth II, has passed away at the age of 96. The late monarch was represented on more coins than any other British royal figure, setting a global record for the number of currencies with the same person's likeness. The Type 1 2023 1 oz Silver Britannia which I've shown before, is her final appearance in the Britannia series, and she can be found on the coins of at least 45 different nations.
Few coins can boast of having been minted for almost 11 centuries, but the British Britannia can undoubtedly make this claim. The economics of minting silver coins have stayed mostly intact despite all the upheavals and social advancement that Great Britain has seen over the years as the empire has grown.
I hope to see you again soon!
