On the blog of @joeyarnoldvn, who lives in the coldest city in the United States, I stumbled like I was in a swamp. Who is that Seattle guy who doesn't resemble the American handsome guy Leonardo de Caprio? Seattle is a strange place for Koreans compared to California, the Rocky Mountains, and Texas. I went to the Seattle Men's Blog, which calls itself a food oatmeal, and was in great confusion.
Koreans remember the 1993 movie Sleepless In Seattle, starring Tom Hanks and Mac Ryan. I also got to know Seattle for the first time while watching the movie.
Koreans often recognize Americans as cowboys, Christians, businessmen, singers, movie stars, athletes, astronauts, and Uncle Sam. By the way, Seattle man @joeyarnoldvn is not sure.
@joeyarnoldvn seems to be an artist, but his English is hard to understand for Koreans. There are symbols, metaphors, satire, and humor that only those who know American culture understand.
I couldn't understand @joeyarnoldvn's writing, but his mind could. He looked good. In particular, I am interesting the fact that he expresses Star Wars as a great myth. Koreans don't like Star Wars movies very much. So, I'm surprised that Americans idolize Star Wars. It was amazing that
@joeyarnoldvn worshiped Star Wars like religion. He told me praise for Star Wars.
Why @joeyarnoldvn worships Star Wars like religion? I remembered that America is a younger world than Asia and Europe. America is a world created by immigrants, so there is no unique creation myth.
People who migrated from Europe to the new continent built the Christian civilization after destroying the Inca and Aztec civilizations. North American Indian society also disappeared after being conquered by Europeans. After the United States became independent from the British colony, it declared separation from European civilization. The United States separated from Europe, but was still influenced by Europe in terms of religion, culture, thought, science, politics, economy, philosophy, and race.
There are reasons why many Americans study to Europe and travel to Europe.
However, Americans like @roleerob did not like European emperors and kings. In particular,
@roleerob was proud that his ancestors fought the British king.
@roleerob probably wanted to tell me that America is a civilization distinct from Europe.
Conversing with @roleerob and
@joeyarnoldvn, I came to this conclusion as to why Star Wars was born. Americans wanted America's only creation myth, distinct from Europe.
The confrontation between the empire and the republic in space far past, not on Earth, symbolized the confrontation between the United States and Europe. Star Wars says that the European emperors and kings fought in a virtual universe with American citizens, ending with American citizens winning.
So, Americans are enthusiastic about Star Wars.
As American citizens triumph over European emperors and kings,
The United States claims to be superior to Europe.
I concluded that Star Wars is an American creation myth that expresses American pride that America is superior to Europe. The scene of Luke Skywalker's confrontation with Darth Vader symbolized the confrontation between America's ancestors, Europe and America. It was also similar to the Roman Catholic and American Protestant confrontations.
