Hello my fellow stackers ....
Today was a road trip day for me. Had to hit up several supply houses for material for the current kitchen job that I’m working on. Well to my surprise right next to one of my suppliers a pawn shop opened since I was last there. It’s a place called Perfect Pawn. Never heard of them but the guy told me they are all over New Jersey.
So after getting what I needed and loaded into the truck I went and checked it out. It’s a small place with very little on display for a pawn shop. There were two workers both behind a bulletproof glass set up like at a bank. It was pretty strange to me.
I walked up and asked if they had any silver? Both guys asked what kind of silver? Bars, rounds, coins? I said whatever you have I’d like to see if possible. They said they only sell precious metals by appointment. The look on my face must have been priceless...... I said so you’re telling me you have nothing here for sale? They said usually not but we just did a buy on some silver this morning you can look at.
They asked me for ID and then buzzed me inside behind the glass. Walked me over to a desk and asked me to have a seat, they will be right back. They came back with two envelopes which they placed in front of me. The first one was old junk silver, and it was all in rough shape. No dates, all cull and slicks. I opened the other which contained ten silver one ounce rounds and two Engelhard bars in rough condition. I asked what they wanted for the twelve pieces. They said two dollar over spot for the rounds and eight dollars over spot Engelhard bars. I actually laughed out loud, I couldn’t help myself. Then I asked if that was the best they could do. They wouldn’t budge on the Engelhards but I got them down to a dollar over spot on the rounds.
It’s a little more then I’d like to pay for generics rounds but I scratched my itch for the day. Don’t think I’ll be going back there anytime soon. And I honestly don’t see them staying in business the way they run things.
Well here they are, it’s a pretty good variety of rounds. The only design that had multiples was the Indian head one, the rest are a mixed lot. All in good shape.
