Afternoon everyone ….

Yesterday I posted a ten ounce bar from the Germania Mint. They are a top notch mint with an impeccable standard, which is clearly displayed in all of their work.

Well today I’m going to talk about a very similar company who has been doing the same for decades now. While their bars and rounds are more of a no frills style as opposed to mints like Scottsdale and Germania. Their quality and the respect they have within the stacking community in the United States is undeniable.

Silver was not much of a draw to most in the very late 1980’s or 1990’s. Especially after the whole Hunt brothers escapade. Many of the smaller mints disappeared at that time from lack of interest in silver. Throughout the 1990’s silvers rage was between $4-$5 an ounce. So one of the most known and bought silver back then was the Sunshine Mint.

This lack of interest in silver during that time is what drove companies like Engelhard and Johnson Matthey from the retail silver and gold business. Yet the Sunshine Mint kept churning out product.

Here is some additional information on the Sunshine Mint.
Founded in 1979 and with decades of cumulative experience, SMI is a full service minting facility that has defined the global standards and is well respected in the industry as a leader. Today I’m going to share a vintage round from them.
