Afternoon everyone ….
I’ve been trying to find time to pour some silver for over a month now. Unfortunately right now the only place that I can pour is outside. I obviously am not going to pour molten metal in my wood shop. That has a chance of being quite disastrous.
I had some time planned to pour on Saturday afternoon, so I set up and got the furnace started. It takes roughly ten minutes to get the furnace up to temperature. So while that was happening I grabbed the rest of the supplies.
Pouring silver and making it look good as well is not the easiest thing to do. My goal was to pour a ten ounce bar that I was happy with.
The first pour, I don’t think the silver was thoroughly hot enough. I ended up with a few blobs at the end of the pour. Back in the crucible it went.
My second pour was pretty solid, a uniform bar but it lacked pour lines. So into the crucible it went.
Third time was a charm. A solid looking bar and I really like the pour lines on this one. It still needs to be tumbled and polished but the start is a nice bar.
It started to get dark out, with rain clouds moving in. I decided to not take a chance and I set the cooldown of the furnace. Good thing because an hour later the skies opened up.
