The longest day of my life is now over......
The call came to us at 10:40pm last night. My dad had passed away.
My dad was a very strong man, the pain he endured over the last two months was ridiculous.
I’ve been with my mom all day making sure that she is ok, while I made all the necessary phone calls and e-mails.
My father wishes are to be cremated. So we are not having a viewing and funeral due to the COVID restrictions. Instead we will have a memorial service when the weather gets nice out.
The immediate family is meeting for the final goodbyes at 1:30 tomorrow at the funeral home prior to him going to the crematorium.
This ring was given to my dad by his godmother when he turned thirteen. That’s nearly 70 years ago. It is a deep blue sapphire gem stone set in 14K gold. The stone is very big, it’s almost 3/8”x5/8” and is probably over 6 carats.
Sapphire is my fathers birth stone and this one is exceptional. My father wanted me to have it. It barely fit his pinky, and doesn’t make it past the first knuckle of my pinky. I’m thinking of getting a chain to put it around my neck.
