If you are asked to hold a snake in your hand, would you do it?
Considering that my roommate and I have 3 pet snakes? Yeah, they don't scare me. But they're in the family of constrictors, wherein they basically wrap around their prey and squeeze it to kill it and they're so small that my roommate and I are not big enough to be counted as prey. Not to say they don't try to squeeze us like prey sometimes, but only when they feel really threatened and they're so small they can't do any real damage except a tight grip that's a bit uncomfortable until they decide to let go. The few times we've been bitten it hasn't been so bad and we don't really care except for after wound care of keeping it clean and infection free because they have no venom to cause damage.
Now a snake in the viper or cobra family that does have venom? I wouldn't hold that. They see humans as large predators and will often bite if they think it'll save them. I don't need to deal with the medical complications of that since it's not something that can be easily taken care of at home unlike a non-venomous bite.
So yeah constrictor snakes don't scare me. In fact the smaller ball python sometimes sits around my neck when I'm streaming video games and such as long as it's not something super intense that I'm yelling at so I don't scare him. For people who like snakes it's not a big deal to hold them, but a lot of snake owners feel like I do; keep it to constrictor types and leave the venomous ones to professionals and people who have access to the immediate medical attention should you be bitten.
