The strategy was sound, but hey, Mary Marvel can take hits from battleship cannons. I'm not sure why she thought a spear could punch through her skin and rib cage.
Also, for those of you that are gamers, you know that invisibility goes away once you make an attack. Unless you use the HIGHER level invisibility spell which allows you to stay invisible while you attack. Phantom Lady apparently used the low-level version on Sheena.
Surprised also that nobody pointed out Sheena moving invisibly through the smoke in the last panel:
