Here is my entry for Cosmic Creations #2!
Struggled to come up with something for this theme of "AI with a human touch." Originally I thought I would try for something similar to Adam reaching for God, the painting on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel, replacing either Adam or God with a robot. But the generative art program I was using was not coming even close.
I used StarryAI and went with a simpler prompt. Using the Art->Portrait style I just asked it for "Terminator Face." It generates 4 images at a time and these two were in the results:
And I thought, "Those two look almost like the same dude." So I came up with the idea to make one of those "face-splitting-open-to-reveal-the-killer-robot scenes."
I opened the two images into Clip Studio Paint, and made two layers, human over robot. I had to adjust the size of the robot face underneath so that they matched up pretty closely.
I messed up on my first attempt to split the face open, so I started over. Which turned out to be a good thing, that's when I came up with the idea for the "Human" eyes to de-saturate and grow dim like they are powering down, right before the flesh pulls over them.
I just generated a black line for the seam. Duplicated it so that there were two black lines. Gradually moved them apart and erased the human flesh between the lines. Then added some red eye glow later. There are a total of 32 separate images or frames. I uploaded them all to EZgif.com to merge them all into a GIF file.
Step 3, profit!
