Cyber security is very important, we need to know how to protect our data on the internet, else we become a prey to hackers and scammers.
What's Cyber security? It's the practise of protecting our data, information, system, network from cyber or digital attacks.
Many times, not one time not two times, I've seen cases where some of my friends account got hacked on Facebook, and the hacker messaged me asking for funds, immediately I see this kinds of message, I know it's scam and I just wave it. A lot of people are being scammed daily and it's high time we become security conscious, not releasing sensitive data online even to those we know talkless of strangers cause it could get leaked somehow.
However, I've once fall victim of cyber attack few years ago, during the days of 2go, there use to be a social media platform that works just like WhatsApp, during that time, there was no WhatsApp, 2go was the trending app. For everyone that knows about 2go, some stars were attached to your level of activity on the app, so the more you chat, the higher your star, some of the stars include novice, amateur, enthusiast, professional, expert and so on, I couldn't remember all. So then I was still in professional level and I was looking forward to increase my level by all means, I'm always online, even when I'm not chatting, I'll leave the app open, not for any other thing but to increase my level. There was a competition between me and some of my friends about who will be the first to attain the highest level, so we were desperately seeking for means to be at the top.
In the process of increasing my chat level (2go star) I came across a site that could help one boost 2go star free of charge, all I need to do was just submit my username and password and within 24 hours the magic will happen. Believe me it didn't occur to me at all that it could be a scam, I was desperate to have my level increased, so I can virtually do anything to get that, I didn't hesitate to drop my username and password and before I say jack, I couldn't log in to my 2go account anymore, the hacker had changed my password already, and then using it to extort money from my contacts. Some of my friends called me to ask if I was really the one, because it's unlike me but I told them not to comply because my account has been hacked.
Nevertheless, I couldn't start again from scratch so I just have to recover my hacked account, I used one of my friends account to message the hacker, begging him to please release the account, he then demand for some money which I couldn't afford to pay but I begged him to let me send some airtime and he agreed, (I guess its the hungry type lols or I'm just lucky) that was how I recover my account, I quickly changed the password immediately and since then I've been very careful of my dealings online, I don't release any personal data online and since then I've been free from hackers.
I also learnt my lesson, never be too desperate to get anything done, patience is a virtue, we need to be careful, watchful and smart.
