Introduction

When we imagine a skill that usually does great damage, especially against melee attackers, surely one of them that comes to mind is RETALIATE, the one in which every attack (of this type) has the 50% chance to trigger a counterattack.

Description
RETALIATE.png
Retaliate: When hit by a melee attack in melee, monsters that have this ability have a chance (50%) to attack your attacker.

According to the website Splintercards we have 30 cards from all editions, which at some point may have this ability, namely:

image.png

image.png

Well, despite all these examples, I want to talk a little bit about the unit that I use the most, being the fire element, epic rarity and Chaos Legion edition, I believe that many here also like to use its full potential: FORGOTTEN ONE.

image.png

Of course, the path is not easy, since he only learns this skill at level 3, but I assure you all that when we manage to raise his power to this level, his value on the battlefield is incredibly greater.

Since level 1, he is already a great option for battles in which that rule that gives poison to everyone, due to his IMMUNITY skill, he does not suffer that poison damage, while his opponents are falling due to the damage, when he finally takes the first position of the team, his enemies are already very debilitated.

Description
Immunity.png
Immunity: Monsters with this ability are immune to negative status effects.

Not only that, he has high attributes for a mana cost of 9 points, his biggest weakness in my opinion is his speed by 2 points, but that is still better than many other warriors of the fire element.

When we battle and we have the SUPER SNEAK battle rule, where all monsters with the melee type attack can attack from any position, focusing on the opponent's last unit, that's when the magic happens, after all, leaving FORGOTTEN ONE last on our team, its ability becomes a secret (and deadly) weapon that can guarantee us victory!

It's exactly about this strategy that I want to show you, using a battle I fought as an example.

divisor3.png

How was this battle?

In this battle we had three rules, the first is AIMLESS, where all monsters that attack from a distance or with magic simply hit random targets. The second rule, COUNTERSPELL, makes everyone on the battlefield have the ability to return part of the damage taken, if it is magical.

Finally, the rule I mentioned earlier: SUPER SNEAK, where monsters with the melee attack type gain the skill SNEAK and with that your focus is always on the monster from the last position.

ability_sneak.png
Sneak: Monsters with this Ability, focus on the last monster on the enemy team.

With fire, water, death and dragon elements enabled and 31 mana points available, I imagined from the beginning to play this dangerous game, which would be to put FORGOTTEN ONE last and let its ability do all the work heavy.

Therefore, I chose TARSA as my summoner, obviously because of her perfect synergy with melee monsters:

image.png

Now my only hope was that the water element was not chosen by my opponent, as I consider this one of the worst elements for fire to face. Due to its armor and speed, water becomes a strong element against fire.

My team

  • XENITH MONK → I like to use him as a tank, when he has little mana available, remembering that 9 points would be just to summon FORGOTTEN ONE, I would have to find a way to hold the ends in the forward with him.
  • SCAVO HIRELING → The idea was that your skill that recovers armor would mainly help to recover FORGOTTEN ONE's armor, but any other skill that recovers would help a lot.
  • EXPLODING RATS → A card that I started using more often, I've been really enjoying its set of skills that deal considerable damage and help strip the opponent's monsters of armor.
  • ANTOID PLATOON → Being able to withstand a lot of physical damage and even with the increasing possibility of acquiring life, due to his skill SCAVEGER he gains 1 life point for each monster that falls on the battlefield .
  • URAEUS → Another fantastic card, in addition to having a synergy with the summoner, its main use is the possibility of applying poison (50%) to enemies, which helps a lot when defeating them.
  • FORGOTTEN ONE → Finally, to surprise the opponent, he could attack from this position, as well as his RETALIATE could be quite useful, after all, probably who would hit him was just the body attacks to body, everything we wanted!

After the application phase of bonuses, penalties and derivatives, the battle would start as shown in the image below. Just as my strategy was to use only melee attack monsters, my opponent imagined the same:

Round 1

The first attack was from EXPLODING RATS, unfortunately my opponent put a very strong card in his rear, in addition to having the skill THORNS that causes return damage to melee attackers, therefore, my unit was shot down and this activated its REDEMPTION.

Icon
Description
thorns.png
Thorns: When hit by an attack from the melee type, deals damage back to attacker.
Icon
Description
REDEMPTION.png
Redemption: When this monster dies, it deals 1 damage to all opposing monsters.

image.png

So, following that first round, which was extensive, the most incredible thing happened: the RETALIATE skill was activated three times and with that, it killed the 3 monsters that attacked the FORGOTTEN ONE. As an expression we use here in Brazil and which is on the cover of this post would say: "Come Tranquil!".

diversidade.pngThree attacks, three counterattacks!

This practically ended the whole match, with 3 opponents being defeated, my team was fully engaged and the strategy was working much better than expected!

Round 2

Needless to say, by the beginning of the second round we can clearly see that my team would win. I believe that not even with all the positivity in the world, it could be said that RETALIATE would activate 3 times in 3 attacks in a row, devastating my opponent.

image.png

Round 3

The third and final round started as shown in the image below. With no chances for my opponent, I won this victory in an eccentric way.

Conclusion

Luck or skill? There is no way to say exactly which of these two terms best applies. Sometimes risky strategies win while the ones we consider safe don't do the job, so trying something new that surprises can be the key to winning a battle.

Remembering that all this is just an example, if you have other units that have RETALIATE it might be a good idea to try to surprise like I did in this battle. So, ability to think through the strategy and a bit of luck in executing it, I'm glad it all worked out.

Thank you all so much and see you next time!
