Niña indeterminada,
con cara feliz y triste
que escondes bajo esos ojos
algo que quizás ya no existe.
Te ahogas, respiras,
y aunque quieras desaparecer,
no puedes: todos te miran...
dicen que tienes que poder.
Veo tras tu sonrisa
un montón de nervios disfrazados,
palpo entre esas manos juntas
miedos que aún hoy llevas guardados.
Sé que estás un poco cansada
de correr tras unos sueños
que a veces parecen
solo buscar otros dueños.
Fuiste a la luna y viraste
en tan solo unos cuantos días,
y te aferraste a una nube q resulta...
siempre fue de fantasía.
A veces te sentirás entera,
A veces querrás correr
que ¡ay, niña, cómo has cambiado!
Nunca pierdas la inocencia
que te hace ser especial,
nunca cambies por la vida,
aunque te obliguen a cambiar.

English
Indeterminate girl, with a face both happy and sad, hiding beneath those eyes something that perhaps no longer exists.
You drown, you breathe, and though you might want to disappear, you cannot: everyone is watching you... saying you simply must manage.
I see behind your smile
a tangle of disguised nerves;
I sense, in those clasped hands,
fears you still keep locked away.I know you are a little tired of chasing after dreams that sometimes seem to be seeking other owners.
You went to the moon and returned in just a few short days, clinging to a cloud that turned out... to be nothing but a fantasy.
Sometimes you will feel whole, and at others, broken, as if on life’s report card you had received the lowest grade.
But believe me when I say that your soul is brimming with hidden verses, and soon they will bloom like silences you had long since given up for lost.
Sometimes you will want to run to let go of the past, but now you will bring it along, hand-in-hand with a few poems; that way, at least, you won't forget— oh, girl, how you have changed!
Never lose the innocence
that makes you so special;
never let life change you,
even if they force you to change.
Don't believe them when they say
you should stop idealizing:
You can remain an adult
and, at the same time, the girl who refuses to wake up.
I wrote this poem on the one-year anniversary of my graduation as an engineer. A year away from academic stress, away from books and equations, reconnecting with that other part of myself that science had sidelined—the sensitive, creative, deep girl who was always there but had known little of the real world.
This year brought disappointments, the wonder of discovering the magic of being alive, and the sadness of seeing others brush against that magic without even noticing it. I have had to fight to see the world up close—not by bursting the bubble that has always accompanied me, but by learning to look through it.
Because I realized that the bubble doesn't isolate me; it protects me, allowing me to see beauty without the noise shattering it. Because, in the end, that is what being human is all about: living, even if you are just an "indeterminate girl."
And you, have you had to fight to reconnect with that part of yourself that the adult world has gradually dimmed? In what ways have you stood up for the child living within you? I’d love to read your thoughts in the comments.
