I grew up with a camera to hand, I was 10 when I started carrying one everywhere I went, even to school. Still have playground photos too. Of course it was film cameras then and sending them off to be developed.
With this in mind I bought this second hand Nikon with the 2 lenses you see for around $70 USA money, It was only missing a memory card but they are cheap anyway.
She loved it for a few days then in her wardrobe it went to live, just a fad you see, something new.
Now we are homeschooling though it has become a weekly thing. We spend a few hours out and about taking photos to compare who got the best shot, most of the time she wins, imagination and all.
Why the 3 lenses and not a point and shoot? Well where is the skill in the latter I ask you in return?
This is what she has.
And her imagination, which trust me she has plenty of.
She seems to prefer nature photography, insects, flowers, animals over people. (Can not say I blame her.)
The only problem I find with digital photography is the memory cards are very easily corrupted. Had 2 or 3 32gb of my own go bad this week, and they were not very old at all, 1 only a month. They are Kingston which is not a bad make, so that does not say a lot of good things about them.
So if her memory card goes bad she will lose her childhood photos. As I said, I still have mine.
You can put them all on a laptop but they go bang also.
I tried to store every photo I take on a usb hdd device size 1 terabyte, that went down too.
Seems a bit of a throw away society this digital age.
I digress.
This is one of her own photos from this summer that draws near to the end.
I never took a picture that good aged 10, that I know for sure.
So she has music lessons, photography lessons, swimming lessons, art lessons and the standard education text books that she can do in 1 hour flat whilst yawning.
And finance lessons, chores lessons, a wage when she wants to help and earn some money.
She only gets given small amounts so she knows the value of it and how easy it can be spent. She is not so willing to spend it now. (Just like my wife.)
I found it difficult to get her to remain attentive 2 years ago, since home schooling she has changed for the better by 100%.
We move onto video shoots next when I get her a video camera, secondhand of course, not spending a fortune for one to get dropped or lost.
She is also doing very well with the computer coding, c++ at the moment. But that is a long term thing.
I have always said and I will stick by my words. You can not blame everything on the state education system. Parents have to put some effort in by themselves. I do as I say not just say it.
If you or any friends have a child that has any learning difficulty in specific subjects, sit with them, make it fun, and the rest will take care of itself.
