A Jump Back to the Past with My Teenage Self/Un salto al pasado con mi yo adolescente. (ESP-ENG)
Hello everyone in this great IndiaUnited Community. Today I join this week's contest that leads us to a broad and deep reflection: If you could meet your younger self, what would you say? At first, I thought of several things I could tell my younger self in my internal dialogue, but as a final result of my introspection and personal reflection, it would be the following.
More than a warning about the future or a piece of advice, I think I would like to approach my younger self and have a friendly conversation, tell her how well I know her, that she doesn't have to put up such a big wall hiding her true emotions, that she should just take a deep breath and listen to her favorite music while feeling a pleasant breeze in a place she likes, perhaps in those parks near the house.
It's true that I could advise her not to do some things she will regret later, or even guide her in making certain decisions hoping for convenient changes in my future life. But I met that mischievous and funny girl, and later that closed-off and serious teenager. With that teenager, I would like to talk, not to confront her about her bad actions, but so she has a space to vent her frustration and anger.
To tell her that someday that teenager will be able to learn a lot from those bad moments that bothered her so much, that she is not broken, that there is nothing wrong with her; it is a difficult stage in life, but it will help her grow. And she will see that she doesn't have to try to be intimidating or too serious to be strong; God will give her the strength she sometimes needs.
A loss is a difficult moment for children to go through something like that, but life goes on, and surely many good moments are waiting for her too. I would urge her to keep dreaming, to smile more, at least when she is comfortable doing so, to trust that God is in control of the process, and to tell her not to let a bad time steal the best of her days.
I don't think my younger self needs me to guide her to change something about herself, but rather that I listen to her and can speak to her as a friend, offer her a shoulder to dry her tears, and encourage her: "Come on girl, I know you can do it, just don't stop dreaming. It doesn't matter if your dreams don't come true, there are always things you can do and some you will achieve."
I want my teenage self to feel comfortable enough, in one of those moments of greatest vulnerability, to have me—with more experience—simply watch her and listen to what she feels and thinks without judging her, letting her release what is affecting her in the moment and feel better after venting. Remind her, however, that she has a family that loves her and supports her, and that she shouldn't ignore that important detail because it is a valuable treasure in her process.
Before leaving, I would give her a hug and tell her: "By the way, you will have a very handsome husband, just tell him NO at first hahaha." I think I would leave her in suspense, but it's part of the encouragement hahaha... I was just joking about the previous part, although an unusual farewell like that with my younger self is not a bad idea 😎😆. I would always make it clear that I don't want or expect her to change anything, because each process will simply help her affirm her character and personality into who she is today, or well, who I am today.
