Introduction
Hi everybody,
My name is @shawnnft and I'm here to share my challenge blog post for the Share Your Battle Challenge. The theme featured this week is River Nymph. It's a 4 mana magic damage monster that has cleanse so it is able to remove debuffs from the monster in the front position of the lineup. In my opinion, this card is very situational. It's super good in noxious fumes battles because you can cleanse your tank so it won't get poisoned. It can sometimes be good in keep your distance battles when you have Baakjira as a tank that can heal itself and removing the affliction is critical to allow the Baakjira to keep healing itself.
The Battle & Discussing My Lineup
I played this battle on my scholar account, bltzr-wizard-727. The battle link can be found here. This battle is in diamond modern league. The ruleset for this battle was close range and little league with a 28 mana cap. Since it was a pretty much max mana cap for little league I tried to play the strongest 3 mana and 4 mana monsters. I felt Kelya had the strongest 3 mana and 4 mana monsters and along with the speed and armor it was a pretty solid lineup.
First Position, Xenith Monk - I chose Xenith Monk in the first spot because it's a good tank in little league. It can self heal and it has void armor and magic reflect to counter the possible chance of an Obsidian magic lineup.
Second Position, Tide Bider - I chose Tide Bider for this position because it has solid stats and a good 2nd position card with reach and true strike. There's also the blast shield to protect from the chance they had blast monsters or Yodin.
*Third Position, River Nymph - I chose River Nymph in this position to cleanse any possible debuffs like affliction or poison which could come from Dr Blights which are pretty common to face in a ruleset like little league. River Nymph is also helpful with the swiftness as it gives the team all 1 speed which will pretty much guarantee my monsters to attack before the opponents.
Fourth Position, Angelic Mandarin - I chose Angelic Mandarin in this fourth spot to help heal incase the opponent had any snipe or sneak. It could help the backline stay alive longer. Angelic Mandarin is also really strong with silence since it will also reduce magic damage by 1 which would make my Xenith Monk possibly take no damage from magic since it has void armor.
Fifth Position, Merdhampir - I chose Merdhampir for this spot because of it's solid damage and speed and with the leech it could help tank more for my last position dps. It also has a useful ability called snare that could help remove flying from flying monsters which could be useful as pelacor conjurers are pretty common in little league battles.
Final Position, Kulu Swimhunter - I chose Kulu Swimhunter in the final spot as the final damage source. It would also be able to attack at the first position since there's close range so this was a no brainer. Kulu Swimhunter has solid damage and speed so it was the best man for the last man standing if it reached to that scenario.
Did My Strategy Work? & Would I try differently next time?
Yes, my strategy worked. If you watched the battle, my opponent got completely destroyed without even one of my monsters dying. The opponent chose to play Quix which reduced my teams range and speed by 1. The reduction of the range damage by 1 was huge since half of my monsters were range. I felt that I was able to win because my lineup was just solid against the opponents lineup. My lineup completely countered the opponents lineup. I had an answer for his whole team. I had Xenith Monk to reflect and kill his magic monsters. I had triage from the Angelic Mandarin to help delay the sneak damage. I had River Nymph which gave the whole team 1 speed and was able to actually cleanse the stun from Twilight Basilisk if it was necessary. However, it was able to cleanse the rust which gave back the armor to my Xenith Monk. Merdhampir came in handy and removed flying from the Pelacor Conjurer. Basically everyone from my lineup did their job to perfection. I don't think I would try anything differently next time for this ruleset as the lineup is pretty solid.
Do I Like River Nymph? Why Or Why Not?
To answer this, I do like River Nymph. I think the card really synergizes well with tanks like Baakjira in noxious fumes. It's really niche but when it needs to help cleanse debuffs it can be super useful and pretty much almost help you get a higher chance to win in every noxious fumes battle that allow the water element. It also has a useful swiftness ability at max level which helps increase whole team by 1 speed; this actually does help win some battles in max level league because it helps you attack first.
