I'm so happy today after taking advice from a fellow Steemer, I was able to upload a profile photo to my account. A lesson learned. Now I just hope it shows up with this post.
I promised that each day I would post a "Lesson I learned either in my yesteryears or yesterday". So here goes. Yesterday I visited a friend who had a stroke about 8 months ago. She has always been a very 'in-control' 'independent' person and this has been a real challenge for her.
We talked today about how it has not only been difficult, working to regain movement of her left arm and leg, but it has also been emotionally draining. I shared with her my new steemit articles and she agreed it might be helpful for others to know about the emotional issues for stroke victims. Depression, memory issues, slower reasoning powers - and how for a previously very active person, this is even harder to cope with than the physical issues.
If you know of someone in a similar situation, please recognize these challenges and open the door for them to how they feel with you. I think sometimes we tend to side step discussing difficult topics but it's good for them to have someone available who truly understands.
Good news, however, is she (my friend) is progressing nicely. The Doctors told her she'd most likely not regain use of her leg and arm BUT they were wrong. She has feeling in both and is now able to move them - actually lifting her leg - and with ongoing therapy is determined to walk and move out of the nursing home that is now her residence. She is confident that time is coming soon.
That's it - 2 lessons - one today and one yesterday. Take care - See you again soon!
