With a perfect melody bound with painful lyrics that open stitched wounds and reveals reality, she wore the elegance of every word that harassed her with the truth she keeps on ignoring, hoping it would save her from the numbing realization; this is her last song for her.

The tune she once loved, the one that had given her comfort— embroidered with deep metaphors and fascinating ironies about life and love— is now part of her dull what-ifs, believing they will never come true.

What if you open your eyes and tell me this is just a nightmare?

“Mom, wake up. I made a song for you.”

“Mom, wake up. I want to hear you a sing a song for me.”

“Darling, wake up. Your mother had left you with a kiss of beautifully crafted lyrics.”

Hitting every note was also the counted beats of her heart, and once the melody ended, she also uttered a soundless goodbye, moved a finger and closed her eyes. And though it left me hating every second of the song, I was still glad she freed herself from the pain I never wanted to prolong.

But what if I never sang you a song and the melody never ended, would it keep your life— extended?
