In a remote mountain village, there lived a young artist named Oyan in a small cottage. Oyan had extraordinary skill in his hands, but he lacked something important—a belief in himself. Whenever he picked up a brush, he felt that his paintings might not please anyone, and everyone would laugh at him. Because of this lack of self-confidence, he hid his magnificent artworks in the corner of his room and never showed them to anyone. The people of the village had no idea that such a great artist lived among them.
One day, an old wanderer arrived in the village. He was perceptive and could understand a lot just by observing the thoughts of people. Hearing about Oyan from the villagers, he decided to visit his cottage one day. Although Oyan was initially hesitant, he was charmed by the old man's gentle demeanor and invited him inside. The old man's eyes fell on a canvas covered with cloth in one corner of the room. He requested Oyan to remove the cloth.
With great fear, Oyan unveiled the painting, and the old man's eyes lit up. The canvas depicted a sunrise breaking over the mountainsn, casting light everywhere. Such perfect work of light and shadow is rarely seen. The old man was taken aback for a moment. Then, looking at Oyan, he said, "There is magic in your brush, young man. But I see a darkness in your eyes. You don’t believe in yourself."
Oyan lowered his head and said, "I am just an ordinary person. I fear what if people reject my work? What if I fail?" The old man laughed and took out a small, shiny blue stone from his bag. Handing it to Oyan, he said, "This is no ordinary stone. This is a Belief Stone. A great sage gave it to me many years ago. Whenever you keep this stone in your pocket, all your fears will vanish, and your true talent will be revealed to the world. But remember, the power of the stone will work only when you muster the courage to step forward at least once."
Holding the stone, Oyan felt a strange power. He thought, if this stone truly has such power, then what is there to fear? From the very next day, he set aside all his fears and began painting day and night. He always kept the blue stone in his pocket. He organized a small exhibition in one corner of the village. The villagers were mesmerized by his paintings. Soon, Oyan's fame spread throughout the region.
Within a few months, his name reached the major art galleries in the city. A renowned curator in the city wanted to hold a large exhibition of his paintings. Oyan gladly agreed. On the night before the exhibition, when Oyan was finishing his best painting, the blue stone accidentally fell from his pocket onto the floor and got lost in a small hole. Oyan searched everywhere but could not find the stone.
With the loss of the stone, Oyan fell into a deep panic. He thought that at the exhibition the next day, everyone would see his true self, and he wouldn’t be able to paint well, it would all be ruined. Crying, he set off in search of the old wanderer, who was still at another edge of the village.
Reaching the old man's place late at night, Oyan wept and said, "It's all over. My Belief Stone is lost. Tomorrow, important people from the city will come to see my paintings. Without the stone, I cannot do anything. My talent is gone." The old man gently placed his hand on Oyan's head and smiled. He said, "Calm down, Oyan. Let me tell you a truth. That stone was not a magical stone. It was just an ordinary pebble picked up from the river."
Oyan gasped and exclaimed, "What are you saying! Then how did I paint such beautiful paintings after keeping that stone in my pocket? How did my fears vanish?" The old man explained, "The stone had no power, Oyan. The power was in your belief. When you believed the stone gave you strength, your subconscious mind regained faith in its own power. The magic was not in the stone; it was within you. Even though the stone is lost, your inner talent and self-confidence have not been lost. You are your own source of strength."
Hearing the old man's words, a new world seemed to open up before Oyan's eyes. He realized that the strength he had been searching for outside was actually within him all along. His belief in himself was the real magic. The next day, at the exhibition, Oyan stood proudly without any stone. The city's top critics were full of praise for his paintings. That day, Oyan realized that no external magic is needed to succeed in life; firm belief in oneself can lead a person to the pinnacle of success.
