I'm inclined to think it was intentional. Firstly, who actually keeps Satoshi's address around, especially in their address book? Second, why send it to Satoshi? It could have just been sent to a charity. The only intent I could think of is to contribute to the scarcity of BTC. But then again, $1.2M isn't a meaningful percentage to burn taking into account how much BTC is available.
