Hello, my dear Hive community, I hope you are doing well; today I bring you a reflection that I made recently thanks to a book I was reading. Some time ago, about a year and a half ago I proposed to read all Stephen King's books; it was a personal goal to keep on inviting me to read books periodically; it seems to me that reading is a perfect way to pass the time and to exercise your mind, over time I read several books by him, the most popular ones like Go or Animal Cemetery, etc. However about 4 months ago maybe a little more I downloaded Apocalypse and started reading the book, apparently in an extended version of the original book.

However the book did not catch me, I could not read more than 1 or 2 pages, I got bored, I usually procrastinated and started to be something else and did not read the book; I was reading very sporadically on occasions when there was nothing else to do for example when the power went out or when I had no internet, however, it was very hard and I found it exhausting. Somewhere once I read that when a book does not catch you in the first pages you should leave it because that book is not made for you, I do not know who wrote it but at that moment it seemed to be a very true sentence, there are many books and there are many people who do not read because the first books or the first book they read maybe they did not like it and thought "reading is not my thing", however maybe that book was simply not for that person.

A week ago I realized that maybe this phrase is not so true, after much insistence with the book came to a point where it caught me, I did not sleep and ate reading because I needed to know what happened with the characters and what would be the outcome of the story. So here comes my reflection: is it really necessary to put a book down when you don't like the beginning or is it necessary to read it completely to know if you like it or not? And this does not only happen with books, it also happens with TV series or movies. I am a big fan of a series called Bojack Horseman; I am not going to talk about what the series is about because it is not the point; but I remember that I started watching the series the first time I bought Netflix and it didn't catch me, I watched the first two episodes and I found it boring and heavy, I said to myself "I am not going to watch it".

A couple of months later I was on Netflix again and it came up again in the suggestions because I had started watching it but had not finished and I decided to give it another chance when the first season ended the series caught me completely. The series is really good, but it happens that the first season is very heavy, but as you go through the series you realize that the first season is necessary for you to get to know the characters and understand why it happens as it goes on. It has also happened to me with movies the other I remember now is 2012 the movie with John Cusack where the end of the world happens, I remember when the movie came out it seemed repetitive to me, just another end of the world movie and I didn't even give myself a chance to watch it before making a judgment. However one night I was having insomnia watching TV and by chance, the movie was starting and I dedicated myself to watching it, it turned out that after giving me that opportunity it became one of my favorite movies. So back to my reflection, really when you don't like something you have to give it up, or is it necessary to keep insisting a couple of times? Are you sure you don't like it or does it just bores you at the beginning? I realized that you have to give things a chance, you have to read the books, you have to watch the series or movies, you have to try to understand things to be able to say if you like them or not.

When we are children many times they tell us to try things before saying that we do not like it, I think that is right because you can not give an opinion about something from ignorance, this has been my reflection, I finished reading the book and write about this because I think that maybe it will encourage people to try things that they once gave up. After all, maybe at first, they did not like it and maybe if they try it again they will like it. I would like to know your opinion if you think that when you try something and at first you don't like it you have to give up completely or keep trying until the end to be able to decide.
