Energy obtained from various source severs different purposes. Some there are:
To move object
Energy is needed to move object from one place to another. For example, to move a bus from one place to another, energy is needed which is obtained from the petrol. Energy for this purposes is mostly obtained from other source such as coal, flowing water, solar power etc.
Heating
Heating is required for cooking and warming, making steam, moulding industrial objects, melting objects in industry. Heat energy is mostly obtained from coal, oil, gas and wood.
Lighting
Lighting needs electrical energy that may be obtained from water, coal, wind power, oil source.
Domestic appliances need electrical energy

Vehicles on the road as well as aeroplanes need energy to move. This energy mostly obtained from petroleum products and natural gas.

Electrical energy is required to run electrical appliances. Electrical energy is mostly obtained from hydro-power. Alternative source used to produce it are solar power, wind power, and coal power.
